New Old Stock - is Felipe Vareschi’s Third self-released experimental ambient/noise album. Taking a departure from the artist’s usual open-ended experimental “sound studies” New Old Stock presents itself as a dark, noisy and painful exploration of the environmental impact of music creation. The three-track EP follows the story of a piece of equipment: from manufacturing and marketing to purchase and use, and to its inevitable obsolescence through a shifting montage of serene soundscapes, interspersed by vast walls of noise and chaos. The EP showcases the uncomfortable choices musicians make through their process of creation and invites listeners to think about the relationship that exists between the beauty of music and the environmental reality of its production.

New Old Stock is the result of Felipe Vareschi’s complicated relationship with equipment. They recognize the power and beauty of electro-acoustic instrumentation and the personal significance such equipment had in their musical journey. Whilst at the same time understanding Their role in being complicit in the prevailing “culture of consumption” that surrounds musical equipment, with the added bitterness of the environmental damage caused by its manufacturing.

What responsibility do electronic musicians carry towards the patterns of consumption and waste ingrained within the landscape of electro-acoustic musicianship? And how does the knowledge that the production of music results in inevitable environmental costs change our understanding and appreciation of music as a whole?
